Sex in the Second Trimester: Comfort, Desire and When to Call Your Provider
For most pregnancies, sex is safe in the second trimester, and position choice usually comes down to comfort. Ask your provider if you have a condition that calls for extra caution.
Sex in the Second Trimester: Comfort, Desire and When to Call Your Provider
Many people notice a change in sex drive during the second trimester. Nausea often eases, energy may return, and the growing belly is still manageable for many positions. Comfort, the specifics of your pregnancy and freedom from pain matter more than any single position.
Positions many people find more comfortable
- Side-lying, facing each other or spooning.
- Woman on top, if that feels good and you can control the movement.
- Seated, facing each other.
- Using pillows for support under the belly, between the knees or behind the back.
Some people also use condoms to lower the risk of sexually transmitted infections, which is a good idea whenever you have a new partner or are unsure of a partner's status.
